Marna Carlene Woods Halsted Clark was born August 18, 1937, in Rolfe, Iowa. She died December 15, 2018, in Glendale, Arizona.

She spent most of the years from 1937 to 1956 in Rolfe. As a toddler, Marna suffered from encephalitis from August 1938 through August 1939. Marna’s parents worked for the war effort during WWII. They worked with radioactive Uranium-235 as part of their contributions to the “Manhattan Project” in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. Sadly, Marna’s father died during WWII. Marna graduated Rolfe High School in 1956. After graduation, Marna attended St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minnesota for one year. The following summer, Marna attended Luther College in Decorah, Iowa. After college Marna moved to Chicago, Illinois where she took a position at Augustana Hospital.

Marna married Douglas Alan Halsted on August 8, 1959 at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Rolfe, Iowa. Marna and Doug moved to Evanston, Illinois in 1959. They then moved to Des Plaines, Illinois in 1962. They returned to Evanston, Illinois in 1966 where they stayed until 1998. From 1974-1977 Marna attended Loyola University in Chicago, Illinois where she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Psychology. In 1998, Marna and Doug decided to move across the country to Surprise, Arizona. Marna was a very scholarly person who had an incredible memory. From 1982 to 1984, Marna worked at a nursing home in Northbrook, Illinois. After being raised and actively practicing as a devout Lutheran, Marna decided to join The First Presbyterian Church of Evanston, Illinois in 1988. Marna was extremely active in helping the church’s handicapped members and blind adults until 1998. Marna then returned to her roots, serving devoutly as a member of the Lutheran church up until her death. On August 18, 2000 Marna and Doug agreed amicably to end their marriage through divorce. They were married 41 years. Marna changed her last name from Halsted to Clark and then moved to Sun City West, Arizona. Marna was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease and stayed in a nursing facility starting in 2002. In May of 2010, Marna entered Bella Vita Health and Rehabilitation Center. She remained there till her death on December 15, 2018.

Marna and Doug had four children Marc, Amy, Brent and Kier. Marna had four grandchildren Lyla, Matthew, Jacob, and Courtney. Marna enjoyed being a full-time wife and mother for many years. She was preceded in death by her parents George and Marguerite; her son Brent (November 11,1990); and her sister Helen Anne (December 9, 2018).

Marna’s Earthly remains were scattered at Hansen Desert Hills Cemetery in Scottsdale, Arizona during a private family memorial service.
