It is with great sadness that the family of Bret Blanche announce his passing on January 27, 2019 at the age of 52. Bret lived an awe-inspiring life of sailing, adventure and kindness. Born January 8, 1967 in Cleveland, Ohio and settling in the dry desert of Phoenix, AZ in 1974. Half Viking and Wildcat summed him up nicely but those were just his school mascots from Sunnyslope High School and University of Arizona. He was brilliant and detail oriented which prepared him nicely for a career in engineering, predominantly in the aerospace industry. Bret was born with sea legs, taking his first sailing trip at four years old. We all have many cherished memories of his passion for sailing, regattas and camaraderie. Bret was always up for an adventure and would drop anything he was doing to help you in any way he could. He made an excellent older brother and friend; protective, encouraging and generous. He had many hobbies that stimulated his bright mind such as modeling kits (mostly sail boats), reading big thick books and getting out into nature (camping, motorcycles, dirtier the better).
Forever remembered by his parents, James and Patricia Blanche; siblings, Emily Blanche, Melissa Blanche and Jacob Blanche; nieces, Aryah Blanche and Eissa Blanche-Oyzon; best friend and like a brother to our family Steve Kusic; and many, many friends and extended family. He is preceded in death by his mother Laura Lake Blanche.
A celebration of life will be held at 4:00 PM on Thursday, February 7, 2019 at Hansen Mortuary, 8314 N. 7th St., Phoenix 85020. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be given to https://oceanconservancy.org/ways-to-give or https://www.ncadd.org.Print Obituary & Condolences
