Cruz (Ramirez) Gomez passed away peacefully in the early morning on January 10, 2020, surrounded by loved ones. She is preceded in death by her husband, Ray Gomez, who passed away in 2012. She is survived by her five children Rose Marie, Raymond, Edward, Catherine and Timothy; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
Cruz was born in Phoenix on May 3, 1931 to Tomas and Maria Ramirez. She was the oldest of 12 children, including Tommy, Ernie, Bobby, Gilbert, Connie, Lupe, Josie, Gloria, George, Jesus (Chuy) and Joe. She attended Washington grammar school and Glendale High School. She married Ray on August 20, 1955, and they were married 57 years. Cruz had a very strong work ethic. She was primarily a homemaker early in her marriage, staying home and raising her children. As her children grew, she proudly went to work the assembly line at Motorola. After working for several years, she began helping with the care of her grandchildren. Her first priority was always family, and she was like a mother to many besides her children. Her home cooked family dishes were a special treat. She thoroughly enjoyed an occasional visit to the casino with her sisters, who she shared a very close relationship all her life. She was an avid sports fan, and amazed others with her vast knowledge of many sports, especially pro football. She will be greatly missed but we are comforted in knowing she lived a full and enriched life and is now looking down upon us from Heaven.
Public visitation is from 11:00am-1:00pm, followed by Memorial service from 1:00-2:00pm on Sunday, January 19, 2020 at Hansen Chapel, 8314 N 7th St, Phoenix 85020.Print Obituary & Condolences
