Dorothy Eagle left this world for a new life in God’s kingdom on September 20, 2017 surrounded by her loving family and friend Jeanne.
Dorothy Friberg was born on February 14, 1929 in Richmond, Indiana to Hugo and Thyra Friberg. Dorothy was raised in Richmond. She became an accomplished musician playing piano and organ as well as singing in church choir. Dorothy continued her music education at Earlham College where she earned a bachelor’s degree in Piano and Organ.
While in college on a visit to a friend’s home in Iowa, Dorothy was playing a game of tiddlywinks when she was introduced to a student minister who rented a room in the friend’s home. After about a year of letters and visits she married that student minister and love of her life, Donald Alvin Eagle. They were married for 59 years until his passing in 2010. Together they lovingly raised their two children David and Jane in Davenport, Fairfield and Des Moines, Iowa before the family moved to Phoenix in 1966.
Once in Phoenix, Dorothy went back to college at ASU where she earned a Masters’ Degree in Speech Therapy.
Dorothy loved teaching children, first piano in the public schools in Iowa and then Speech Therapy in the Madison School District for 22 years. She was very proud of the difference she made in her students’ lives by helping them overcome their speech difficulties.
Her greatest joy was spending time with her family. She loved hosting all her family and guests in her home. She always enjoyed traveling and camping with her husband and family. A couple of trips to Europe and Hawaii as well as trips to visit family back East were highlights of her retirement years. She truly loved family holiday celebrations. She especially enjoyed making Christmas a day of wonder and joy for all to remember.
She was a very proud member of Foothills Christian Church and PEO for more than 50 years.
Dorothy’s family would like to thank the many fine doctors, nurses and caregivers who took such good care of Dorothy during the last few years.
Dorothy will be greatly missed by her daughter Jane Hull and grandchildren Jason and Jennifer Hull, Mallory and Mathew Eagle, six great-grandchildren, her brothers Bernard and Robert Friberg and nieces and nephew.
