Dorothy Rita Hare

Dorothy Rita Hare (Dottie), age 101, passed away on November 27, 2019, from natural causes. Dottie was born in Danville, Pennsylvania on September 1, 1918 to Theresa and James T. Brady. She was 2nd of 13 children. She was raised in the family home in Danville which is still standing today for over 140 years. Up until the age of 18, she assisted her Mother in tending to her younger siblings. She moved out of the house at the age of 18 and moved to Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, where she obtained a business certificate and worked until she met the love of her life, William Hare, who she later married in Jacksonville, Florida, on October 14, 1942, during WWII. After the end of WWII, Mom and Dad settled in Rutherford, Pennsylvania. In 1965, they relocated the family to Layton, Utah because Dad was transferred to Hill Air Force Base. They remained in Layton, Utah until they retired. In 1981, they moved to Arizona City, Arizona.

Mom had a very successful sales career later in life up until she retired. She sold phone book advertising. Mom and Dad were RV enthusiasts. They began touring the country with a truck and camper in 1966 with the children. This eventually led to various motorhomes throughout their retirement years. After Dad’s passing, Mom continued to drive her 34-foot long motorhome well into her 80s.

After Dad passed away, she was involved in the Senior Center in Casa Grande, Arizona, where she would enjoy playing card games, pot luck lunches, and bus trips to various locations. They exchanged recipes and eventually published a recipe book “Sharing Our Best – Senior Citizens of Casa Grande”.

Mom is survived by her 6 children, William (Carmen) Hare, Dorothy Ann Morrison, Thomas (Julie) Hare, Katherine (Sonny) Gutierrez, Ann (Robert) Martinez, James Hare. She has 13 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great-grandchild. She is preceded in death by her husband, William Hare, and her Grandson, Bryan Hare.

How fortunate we all were to have her as our Mother. She always put us first. She always gave us the best guidance. She was always kind and taught us to be the same way. We would like to thank all of Mom’s Arizona City and Casa Grande Friends and neighbors who over the years helped her in times of need as she lived alone. Also special thanks to her oldest son Bill and his wife Carmen for always taking care of our Mother in her final years.

A visitation will take place on Friday, December 6, 2019 at Hansen Desert Hills Mortuary from 4:00pm-7:00pm. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 7, 2019 at 3:00pm at Hansen Desert Hills Mortuary 6500 E. Bell Road, Scottsdale, Arizona, 85254. Interment at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona will take place on Monday, December 9, 2019 at 10:30am 23029 Cave Creek Rd, Phoenix, AZ 85024.

Our mom, grandmother and great-grandmother was the matriarch of the Hare family. The one whom all of us confided with for day to day problems in life. She will be greatly missed as a source of wisdom that she showered on all of us.

Special thanks to Banner Hospitals Casa Grande and Mesa for providing excellent care to our mom.
