George Swoveland, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, went to be with the Lord on April 23rd, 2018. He was surrounded by loved ones. Born May 7th, 1931, to Will and Charlotte Swoveland, he was one of seven children (George, William, Merlin, Carol, Duane, Sharon, and Kathie). He was born in Mishawaka, IN and moved to Phoenix, AZ in 1990, after retiring from CIGNA.
George has dedicated his life to walking God’s path and leading others to know the Lord. A member of the Southern Baptist community his entire life, he became a deacon early on and has helped start many churches. He has been very active in the local church leading Bible studies and helping to minister to others.
He met his wife, Nell Kennedy, in San Benito, Texas, and they married April 7th, 1951. George served his country in the Air Force during the Korean war. They were married 67 years and had four daughters.
Family has always been important to George, and he attended all his grandchildren and great grandchildren’s school events. Sunday dinners, holidays, and birthdays were special times.
George is survived by his wife Nell, their children Cynthia Coleman and Ernest Coleman, Debra Swoveland, Lori Swoveland, and Leslie Smith and Roy Smith. George’s legacy will also live on in his ten grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Romans 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.
