Phoenix – Helen Fern Downing, 93, passed away January 26, 2019 surrounded by loved ones in Chandler, Arizona. She was born in DeKalb, Missouri to Charles and Hazel Linville on April 1, 1925. She married William Raymond Downing on February 14, 1942. They moved from Rushville, Missouri to Phoenix, Arizona in 1968 where she worked many years for the Maricopa County Juvenile Court Center, volunteered for the John C. Lincoln Hospital gift shop and a longtime member of the Sunnyslope Christian Church and choir. Helen will always be remembered for her uplifting, joyous personality, beautiful voice and love for music, her wit, wisdom, laughter, ability to make others laugh, and most of all the love for her family.

Helen is survived by her daughter Cheryl (Terry) Mullins of Tempe, Arizona; son Dennis Downing (Anna Spencer) of Reading, Pennsylvania; and daughter Rhonda (Alan) Otlo of Chandler, Arizona; 8 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Hazel Linville, baby boy Linville, her husband, William Raymond Downing and baby girl Downing, and her son, Larry Ray Downing (surviving wife – Marsha of Rushville, Missouri).

Visitation is from 11:00am–12:00pm, followed by Memorial service at 12:00pm on Thursday, January 31, 2019, at Hansen Chapel, 8314 N. 7th Street, Phoenix 85020. Interment will be at 2:00pm at National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona, 23029 N. Cave Creek Rd., Phoenix 85024.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Helen’s honor to Comprehensive Hospice & Palliative Care, 2111 E. Highland Ave., Phoenix, Arizona 85016.

Thank you for the great oportunity to share Helen beeing part of our Family for the last 3 years too. I want to tell you how grateful we are for YOU ALL!!! Our mother was blessed to have you walk into her life and ours! So happy she has blessed you as well! How wonderful you all are and were to her, we couldn’t ask for any better place for her to be!
We are missing her, but knowing she is in a very good place now helps me feel peaceful.
