In 1950, Chester and Janice Hansen founded Hansen Mortuary located in Phoenix, AZ.  All four Hansen children, Rae Jeanne, Brad, Craig, and Trish, grew up in the business and have all helped to fulfill their parent’s vision of building a comprehensive mortuary committed to serving families in the greater Phoenix area.  In 1996, Hansen Desert Hills Mortuary and Cemetery opened in Scottsdale, which continued to expand the family’s vision.

Hansen Mortuary is a full-service mortuary, providing complete care for all families.  The Desert Hills location excels in providing all aspects of funeral service including mausoleum crypts, indoor and outdoor niches, as well as earth burials.  The Hansen family owns DECA Crematory which services Hansen Mortuaries as well as other mortuaries in Arizona.  Hansen Mortuary strives to provide all elements needed to help families experiencing loss.

Independently owned and locally operated, Hansen Mortuary provides personalization of all services and dedicates it’s time to ensure that each family is served with professionalism and care.  The Hansen family is committed to the communities they serve, and compassionately provide the necessary tools for families embarking on their own grief journeys.

Part of the pride that comes with a family-owned business is being part of and serving communities.  For over 70 years, the Hansen family has had this privilege.  Now the second and third generations continue to grow the business their parents and grandparents began.  Hansen Mortuary understands that in order to truly serve communities united in loss, one must understand grief takes time and with this understanding have created Anniversary and Christmas Memorials, while also providing one-on-one or group bereavement counseling for all families who come to Hansen Mortuary.

Today, Brad Hansen and Trish Hansen Kerr operate Hansen Mortuaries, Inc. They continue the “Hansen Way” by upholding their parent’s legacy of providing compassionate and personalized service to all families while helping them heal. 

By helping families heal, Hansen Mortuaries is able to help the living successfully navigate that crucial time between the event of death and the onset of grief, this is known as the Acute Loss Period. This helps them focus on how to be there for you, so you can grieve, grow, heal and continue to love.

What is the Acute Loss Period?

1. It is the period between the event of death and unset of grief.
2. It reflects the human experience, which is distinctive and universal in the grief experience.
3. This period manifests in seven phases; Hearing, Sharing, Seeing, Gathering, Connecting, Reflecting, and Celebrating.
4. An intentional plan is required for each of these phases in order to nurture the emotional, and spiritual needs of the grieving.
