James ‘Jim’ Hushek (“Fr. Jim”), 78, passed away peacefully after a two-year illness on January 15th, 2019 at 11:32PM. He was the loving husband of Carol Hushek; they shared a 30-year love affair. Jim was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. He was the son of Joseph and Marie (Wesley) Hushek. He graduated from Marquette High School in Milwaukee and entered the Seminary to become a Discalced Carmelite Priest where he served in various monasteries in the Midwest and East, serving as Prior at Holy Hill in Wisconsin for six years. In 1988 Jim left the active ministry and in 1989 he married Carol (Lemense). They moved to Phoenix, AZ where he worked in the family business, Phoenix Heat Treating, in IT as a programmer until his death. Jim also officiated over 2,000 marriages from 1994 until his last one on December 12th, 2018. He also officiated numerous baptisms and funerals to continue his love of the ministry.
He was a member of the Federation of Christian Ministries, International Council of Churches, the SSWS community chorus, and an active member of Overeaters Anonymous 12 Step Program for 40 years. He enjoyed golf, playing bridge at every opportunity, spending time with his grandkids, IHOP pancakes with his grandson Jack, reading non-fiction books, traveling whenever possible, and most of all making sure his wife was happy. He will be remembered for his generosity, sense of humor, gentleness, storytelling, and above all, the way he showed kindness to everyone he knew and the unconditional love he had for all those in his life.
He is survived by his beloved wife Carol, loving sister Joan Ambre and sister-in-law Pat Hushek. Also, his (step) children Cheri and Steve Sadler, his grandchildren Sarah, Hope, Rachel, and Jack and his great-grandson Jamesyn. He is also survived by many amazing nieces, nephews, and friends. He was predeceased by his parents and his brothers Joseph Jr, Paul (Florence), Charles, and Allan (Mickie).
The celebration of life will be held on Friday January 25th at 7PM at the Hansen Mortuary which is located at 8314 North 7th Street, Phoenix, AZ. The visitation will be held from 4PM to the time of service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Carol Hushek for a memorial to be determined.Print Obituary & Condolences
