Gone Fishing! Our beautiful mother and grammy, Judith K. Atkerson, age 76, passed away at her daughter’s home on Wednesday, January 30, 2019, surrounded by the love of her family.
She was born on August 28, 1942 in Kendallville, Indiana to William W. and Marie (Hossinger) Wallace. Judi moved to Phoenix at the age of 8 where she enjoyed riding horses, golfing and cheerleading with dear friends at Central High School. She went on to the University of Arizona for one year and joined the Delta Gamma Sorority. In November 1962, she married her love, Phillip H. Atkerson. Together they had three children and enjoyed sharing time together as a family camping, fishing, summers in San Diego and various activities through their First United Methodist Church in Tempe. Judi loved her job as a wife, mother and homemaker and did it so beautifully, with passion, care and conviction. She so enjoyed time in Pinetop and the White Mountains where she and her husband would spend summers fishing and enjoying their cabin.
She is survived by her children and their spouses, Deb (Atkerson) & Gary Bielek, Kelly (Atkerson) and Brett Wallerstedt and Phillip & Suhey Atkerson. She has seven beautiful grandchildren who she claimed as her “pride and joy” Joseph & Jenna (Bielek), Logan & Nick (Wallerstedt), Dylan, Riley & Valentina (Atkerson). A private family gathering was held at Hansen Desert Hills Mortuary on Friday, February 1.
We are so grateful for the compassionate care provided by Hospice of the Valley and Memorial Donations may be made in Judi’s name to Hospice of the Valley 16117 N. 76th Street, Scottsdale, AZ 85260Print Obituary & Condolences
