Margaret Ann Hennesy, beloved wife, mother and grandmother passed away peacefully in Phoenix on January 16, 2019 at the age of 91. Margaret was one of four children born to Francis and Helen (Dillon) Fillo on August 26, 1927 in Saint Louis, MO. After graduating from Webster Grove College she became a social worker. She was lucky enough to meet her husband, Edwin “Pat” Hennesy when her brother Frank brought the “new guy” in town to their house for a home cooked meal. They married in 1951 in St. Louis and lived briefly in El Paso before settling in Phoenix AZ in 1952.
While she spent her life as a homemaker – make no mistake – Margaret was an enormously strong woman and a feminist before her time. She was truly one of a kind and the backbone of our family. She will be remembered for her quick wit, sharp tongue, loud laugh and unwavering love for her family and friends. She always had a joke to tell and was ready to sing, dance, laugh and be the life of the party.
She loved life and lived it on her own terms. She enjoyed golfing and traveling with the “Birthday Girls” group and the camaraderie they shared. They may have gotten into some trouble once or twice…. She was a wicked card player whether it be bridge, poker or gin and, even with the grandkids, she always played to win. It always seemed that luck was on her side and she spent many hours at the casino. Speaking of luck, Margaret was blessed with 4 children – Pat Jr. (Kathy), Michael (Lori), Mary Helen, and Susan (Jim), 9 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren.
We know she is in heaven enjoying a round of golf followed by a dice game with her many friends who preceded her in death, looking down on her family with a smile and a wink.
Services will be held Wednesday, January 23, at 1 p.m. at St Francis Xavier Parish. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of the Valley at hov.org. Visit www.hansenmortuary.com for online condolences.Print Obituary & Condolences
