Betty D. Black
Black, Betty D. of Phoenix, Arizona, passed away on Sunday morning, June 6, 2010 at the age of 78. She was born January 30, 1932 in Ottumwa, Iowa to Wilbur Randolph and Jessie McBee. Betty was the third of four children and is survived by a brother, Gene of Carydon, Iowa and a sister, Doris of Ottumwa, Iowa. She retired from AT&T after more than 20 years of service as a telephone operator. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Richard D. Black, whom she married on August 19, 1951 in Agency, Iowa. She is the mother of four children of whom she was extremely proud: Joyce Surkala (Dan) of Concho, Arizona, Richard Black (Kay) of Ottumwa, Iowa, Andrew Black (Julie) of Wittmann, Arizona and William Black (Lisa) of Phoenix, Arizona. She is also survived by 8 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren whom she loved immensely. Visitation will be held 5-8 pm on Wednesday, June 9th at Hansen Chapel, 8314 N. 7th ’Street, Phoenix.
