Obituary

Linda Kay McKenna, 62, known to friends and family as "Lin," passed away suddenly and unexpectedly of natural causes on Wednesday, January 6, 2021 in her home in Phoenix, Arizona. She was the beloved wife and best friend of Joshua ("Josh") Dunning McKenna, her husband of over 20 years. In addition to Josh, Lin is survived by her children, who she loved very much, son Christopher Smith and daughter Samantha (Joseph) Skrzypchak; her three dear sisters Laura (Brad) Bearden, Lisa (Ismael, Jr.) Garza, and Libbie (Chad) Loar; her parents-in-law Donald and Ann McKenna; sisters-in-law Paula (Richard) Block, Marian (Richard) Olivas, and Kathryn (Jim) Wade; "the" brothers JJ Nelson and Jared Nelson ("the Baby"); and a bevy of extended family--and friends she treated as family--too numerous to list. She is predeceased by her parents Lucy (Lucille) and Leo (Jr.) Bednark and missed them every day since losing them in 2009 and 2011 respectively.

Though Lin was born in San Diego, California when Leo was stationed there with the U.S. Navy, she considered herself as hailing from Adrian, Michigan where she grew up and went to high school. Lin worked for many years for General Motors as a laborer (She liked to say as a "grunt"). After moving to Florida she worked for Crane Cams where she and Josh met. They moved to Josh's home state of Arizona in 1999. Lin adopted Phoenix as her hometown, but she kept part of her heart in Michigan with her parents and sisters as part of the "Four Ls."

Lin will be remembered as a fiercely loyal and kind friend and family member. Josh and Lin were dedicated bikers and spent many happy hours on rides long and short. Lin was a proud member of the Phoenix chapter of H.O.G (Harley Owners Group) #93.

There will be a private farewell for immediate family only at Hansen Mortuary in Phoenix, Arizona. As per her wishes, Lin will be remembered with a final ride to the ocean at some point in the coming months when COVID restrictions ease.

If you would like to remember Lin, in lieu of flowers or other remembrances, please consider donations in the memory of Lin McKenna to Phoenix H.O.G. Charities (a non-profit 501(c)3 organization of H.O.G. #93) in support of "Riding for Kids."* Lin regularly participated in their fundraisers so that children with serious burn injuries can have a summer camp experience in a safe and respectful setting. Lin was always quick to lend anyone a hand. Those who called her friend or family will not be surprised that the "Camp Courage" cause was close to Lin's heart.
