Obituary

Nell Inez Swoveland, 89, from Bessemer, Alabama, left us to be with the Lord on Thursday, December 23, 2021. She died at home in Phoenix, AZ, surrounded by loved ones. She is survived by her daughters Cynthia Coleman, Debbie Swoveland, Lori Swoveland, and Leslie (Roy) Smith. She also leaves five grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, whom she adored.

Nell was married 67 years to the love of her life, George, whom she met in high school. Nell and George were as devoted to each other as any couple could be. A welcoming hostess, her dinner table was always open, and once invited to dinner, a guest was forever part of the family.

Nell was active all her life, supporting mission work and starting churches with George. An award-winning artist, she enjoyed all mediums but was an exceptional creator of oil paintings. She loved travel, golf, and gardening. She and George often frequented antique auctions in Pennsylvania and they were fascinated by the history of New England. She loved children and taught kindergarten. She and George supported the St. Labre Indian School in Montana for many years. A woman of faith who loved the Lord, she will be greatly missed.
