Obituary
Kathryn Ann Mounkes passed away May 18, 2023, in Phoenix, Arizona at the Beatitudes Campus. She was 91 years old.
Kathryn was born in Reading, Kansas to William and Mary Geraghty. Upon High School graduation, she moved to Topeka, Kansas for employment before eventually marrying Kenneth in 1952. She began her career in the workplace soon after, while also raising four children. During her storied life, she found her eventual lifelong career in the banking industry, receiving promotions along the way. She retired in 1997 as Vice President of Support Systems for Caliber Bank.
She found great purpose by volunteering with Arizona Alliance for the Mentally Ill, and it became her most meaningful work. She, along with her husband Kenneth, helped blaze a trail to bring a much-needed voice for those suffering with serious mental illness, and with the help of many other dedicated volunteers, helped bring about meaningful changes to the State health system. She was a member of St. Helen's Catholic Church where she was an Eucharistic Minister, a Perpetual Adoration volunteer and when time allowed, volunteered with St. Vincent de Paul. Kathryn is remembered for her quiet strength and her fierce dedication to her family. She had a warm, beautiful, and inviting smile that became her signature trademark most especially in her later years.
Kathryn is survived by her children, Cynthia K. Jakubowski (Harry), Mary E. King (Richard), James A. Mounkes, Steven A. Mounkes; grandchildren, Kori A. Lacy and Rachel K. Lawrence (Eric). Great grandchildren include Kenzy Lacy, Michelle Lawrence, and Zachary Lawrence. Preceding her was her loving husband, Kenneth Mounkes, (sister) Helen Newton, (brother) Wayne Geraghty, (sister) Margaret Greer, (brother) Patrick Geraghty, and (brother) James Geraghty.
A funeral mass will be held at St. Thomas Aquinas, 13720 West Thomas Road, Avondale Arizona, 85392, May 25, 2023, at 1:00PM.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Barrow Neurological Foundation in Kathryn's honor.
