Odell Jay Michaelis (Mike), 87 passed away peacefully Friday, December 21, 2018 at 1pm at his home in Scottsdale, Arizona. Mike was born in Smithfield, Utah, February 19, 1931 to Harry and Lena Michaelis. Mike and Beverly were sealed in the Oakland, California Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for time and all eternity. He is survived by his wife, Bev, and three children, Todd Michaelis, Randy Michaelis and Tamara Beckman and three step children Lloyd Benson, Sharon Barnum and Steve Benson, along with many grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Bonnie Milne and son Scott.
Mike served in the U.S. Airforce as an Air Traffic Control Operator, assisting in the first hydrogen bomb test in 1952 near Enewetak. After his military experience he attended the College of Southern Utah where he participated on the basketball team, making it to the state championship finals. He later transferred to and graduated from Cal Poly University, San Luis Obispo with a degree in mechanical engineering. He eventually established a successful business, American Consulting Engineers in the Bay Area.
A viewing will be held at Hansen Desert Hills Mortuary at 6500 E. Bell Road Scottsdale, AZ 85254 at 10:00 am on Thursday, January 3, 2019 with funeral services following at noon.Print Obituary & Condolences
