Richard (Dick) E. Eckert, age 86, passed away on Wednesday, January 16 at Hospice of the Valley in Glendale. He was the husband of Eleanore C. Kazmierczak with whom he shared 64 years of marriage. Born in Buffalo, New York, he was the first son of Veronica and Emil Eckert.
He launched his career in the US Navy in electronics and subsequently, pioneered in modern business systems in companies such as XDS, SDS, Martin Marietta, Xerox, Honeywell, and GE. After early retirement, he began a second career as a pit boss at Harrah’s Casino in Laughlin, Nevada. Dick was a member of St. Joan of Arc church, and St Vincent DePaul Society. He was a deacon in the Catholic Church for thirty years and was able to officiate at family weddings and baptisms. He would tell you that his greatest joy and accomplishment was his large and beautiful family.
He is survived by his wife and his six children, Elise (Brian) Miller, Patti Walker, Richelle (Ed) Handy, Eric (Janice) Eckert, Richard (LaDonna) Eckert, and Alicia (Mark) Turvin. He also leaves nineteen grandchildren, almost fifteen great grandchildren, and his faithful dog Nochee. He was predeceased by his grandson, Seth Walker.
The family invites friends to a 9:30 am rosary with the funeral Mass at 10:00 am on Tuesday, January 29 (their 64th wedding anniversary) at St Joan of Arc church, followed by a luncheon in the hall, with interment at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona at 2:00 pm.
