Vada Caldwell Wheeler peacefully departed this earth life on Thursday, December 13, 2018 at her home in Phoenix, AZ.
Vada was born to Lorenzo ‘Ren’ Snow Caldwell and Laura Fern Carlisle on February 7, 1932 at Pingree, Idaho. During her formative years, she lived with her widowed Grandma Carlisle to be a help and a friend. After graduation from Snake River High School, she attended Brigham Young University and Ricks College (BYU Idaho) where she obtained a teaching certificate and taught school in the Thomas area.
She married Wilmer E. Wheeler on March 14, 1952 and was sealed in the Idaho Falls Temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Together they farmed and raised Idaho potatoes and were blessed with 5 children. When their youngest graduated from High School, they sold the farm and relocated to Phoenix, Arizona where they owned and trained Thoroughbred race horses.
Vada’s talents were endless. She was a gifted seamstress, quilter, decorator, plumber, electrician, and all-around handyman. If there was a job to be done she could do it or quickly figure out how to do it.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wilmer E. Wheeler; her parents, Ren and Fern Caldwell; her brothers, Lyle (Ardeth) Caldwell and Larry Caldwell; her sisters, Merle (George) Hone and Glenna (Calvin) Goodwin; and a daughter, Julie Wheeler.
She is survived by her children, Kurt C. (Kim) Wheeler of Reno, NV; Scott Snow (Kay Lynn) Wheeler of Summerville, SC; Peggy Jo (Don) Vines of New York City, NY; Quinn Caldwell (Jennifer) Wheeler of Phoenix, AZ; as well as siblings Yvonne (Kent) Kunz of Phoenix, AZ and Laverne (Dennis) Hamilton of Nampa, ID. She will be forever missed by 17 grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren.
A viewing will be held at 2:00pm, with a memorial service following at 3:00pm on Thursday, December 20, 2018 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Moon Mountain Ward, 325 W. Coral Gables Dr., Phoenix, AZ 85023.
The family will also greet friends and family on Wednesday, January 2, 2019 from 12:30 – 1:30pm at Hawker Funeral Home, 132 S. Shilling Ave., Blackfoot, ID 83221 prior to her interment in the Moreland Cemetery, Moreland, Idaho.
